Parents of young children: need a mid-week re-charge? If so, or if you are simply looking for more ways to enrich the whole family spiritually, St. Paul UMC in Grant Park invites you to join one or both of their new Wednesday night study groups.
On Jan. 30, preschool-age to 10-year-old children began a 10-week study series led by the video adventure, Molly Pickens and the Rainy Day Castle. Weekly discussions cover the traits of faith, strength, humility, empathy, encouragement, sacrifice, and forgiveness take place in a fun context for the little ones.
“Set in a Chronicles of Narnia-like fantasy, the characters in this series are wacky. The kids are really enjoying them and taking lots of good lessons away,” said Sharon Yancey, Children’s Ministry consultant with The Matthew Initiative, a nonprofit foundation that provides the seed funding and staff expertise to help churches start dynamic children’s ministries programs. The mother-daughter team of Sharon and Jordan Yancey has been with St. Paul since last fall, along with churches all over north Georgia.
While the children are in their study, St. Paul parents have been discussing The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, by Dr. Wendy Mogel. Starting with stories of everyday parenting problems and examining them through the lens of the Torah, the Talmud, and important Jewish teachings, the book shows readers how to teach children to honor parents and to respect others, escape the danger of overvaluing children’s needs for self-expression so that kids don’t become “little attorneys,” accept that children are both ordinary and unique, and treasure the power and holiness of the present moment.
Both activities are on Wednesday nights (barring holidays and Spring Break) starting at 6:15pm, just after supper. Supper is available by reservation and is then first-come, first-served after reservations have been filled. Reservations should be made before the preceding Tuesday by emailing supper@stpaulgrantpark.org or at www.stpaulgrantpark.org/supper. Need more information? Call St. Paul at 404-688-7501 or simply drop by on Wednesday nights.
Don’t miss this opportunity for good food, fellowship, and family-enriching discussions.
