7 Stages Theatre presents the world premiere of Curious Queer Encounters. Curated by 7 Stages Co-artistic Director Michael Haverty, seven local ensembles and artists create original and interactive performances hidden in and around the building to represent and redefine queer culture. “What better time than now to celebrate the many meanings of queerness, when discrimination and ignorance resist our recent advances in social justice and cultural acceptance,” said Michael Haverty, co-artistic director at 7 Stages. “Among the seven commissioned performances you will find performances inspired by queer history, politics, and personal experience.” The following artists are included in this season’s Curious Queer Encounters: Jared Dawson, Rebecca Makus, Jed Drummond, Jim Grimsley, Heidi S. Howard, Matthew Terrell, Jason Livingston, Jessica Unker, and Corian Ellisor. “Atlanta is a bastion of gay culture, with a multitude of talented queer artists working in different mediums. This year’s Curious Encounters festival focuses on exposing these artists to a broader audience,” Haverty said. The show runs from May 4 through May 14 with performances Thursday through Sunday. Ticket prices start at $22.50 and are on sale now at www.7stages.org or by calling 404-523-7647.
