39th Grant Park Tour of Homes

By Carrie Teegardin
Get ready to take a peek inside some of the most unique homes Atlanta has to offer during the 39th Annual Grant Park Tour of Homes. This year’s tour, set for Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25, will feature fine homes and lush urban gardens, as well as workshops. Guests from the Grant Park Farmers Market will host talks on the art of keeping bees, raising city chickens, and planting your fall garden.
The tour will feature 10 homes and gardens. One of the homes was built in 2007 and has a staircase open to four stories and a sleeping porch off the master bedroom. Another featured house was built well over 100 years ago and has undergone a complete renovation into a modern family home that retains the features that made it special when the street cars were running out front. “All of the houses on the tour are special in their own way and reflect all the creative ways that people in Grant Park lovingly mix the best of the past and the present,” said Gigi Conner, the tour organizer.
This year’s tour offers some bonus opportunities too. The Grant Park Tour of Homes coincides with the 4th Annual Urban Coop Tour–a self-guided adventure through more than 20 city chicken coops in Decatur, Virginia-Highland/Morningside, and Grant Park. The tours are teaming up and offering a discount on tickets for those who opt to take both tours. Those touring on Sunday can also combine the tour with a stop at the Grant Park Farmers Market, which offers everything from organic vegetables and iced coffee to artisan breads and cooking demos.
The Grant Park Tour of Homes will run from Saturday, September 24, from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sunday, September 25 from noon-6:00pm. Tour tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.grantpark.org/tour. Tickets can also be purchased at Grant Park Farmers Market, Dakota Blue, Grant Central, Six Feet Under, Agave, and Adams Realtors. On the day of the tour, buy tickets or pick up tour books with pre-purchased tickets at the Tour of Homes Booth, which will be located at the corner of Cherokee Avenue and Milledge Avenue — the location of the Grant Park Farmers Market on Sundays.
Want to double the fun and tour Grant Park’s historic homes and chicken coops throughout Atlanta? You can purchase tickets for both tours at a discount price of $30. These tickets must be purchased online at www.grantpark.org/tour or www.urbancooptour.com.
