25 Years of Music, 150 Years Since The Nation Divided–A Free Concert in EAV

The 8th Regiment Band.

BATL is proud to bring The Eighth Regiment Band to the historic Battleground neighborhoods of the Battle of Atlanta to commemorate the 147th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta and the band’s 25th anniversary. The band will be performing along the frontlines of the 1864 Battle in East Atlanta  Village at Fire Station 13 in a 90-minute concert that will be free to the public. The concert at 1:00pm will be part of a day of fun activities for the entire family on Saturday July 16. The ensemble brings to life in a piece of American history by representing the hundreds of military bands that were formed in the Union and Confederate Armies during the Civil War. The 8th Regiment appearance is sponsored by the East Atlanta Beer Fest.
The 15-member band performs music from both sides of the conflict in replica blue and gray uniforms, with appropriate dialogue and action. They create a program intended to be “a museum of 19th-century American emotions. You can feel what the men and women of the Civil War period felt,” said Carruth. He added that at the time of the Civil War there actually was an 8th Regiment Band in the North and in the South and we chose our name with that in mind. The brass band uses historically accurate arrangements and instruments including an E-Flat tuba rescued from its life as a planter.
The band has appeared all over the country and made numerous TV and movie appearances. At BATL they may even play President Lincoln’s favorite tune since he will be there. You can get more information about the concert and the other fun programs and activities at www.batlevent.org.
