An award winning photo documentary show about a tragic event and its healing aftermath is now on display in the East Atlanta Branch Library meeting room. The collective of photographs, sponsored by the Friends of East Atlanta Library (FEAL), is entitled “For the Love of Romeo: Urban Peace.” It documents one family’s experience in the aftermath of urban gun violence.
FEAL hosted a reception on Saturday, April 2 for the collection and the exhibitors. During the reception the presenter of the exhibit, Ms. Sandra Alexander along with friends and family spoke about their own experience and the photographs. Gabe Banks, an attorney with Fulton County juvenile court, also gave a short talk.
The show’s curator, Sandra Alexander, explained the work by saying, “This collection of photos from my family’s life is very, very personal. I would never want to share this pain in such a public way but for the hope that it might change the lives of teenaged boys who, like Romeo, grew up in the inner city.”
The exhibit will be on display through mid-May. Library patrons and the community are encouraged to view the exhibit anytime during regular library hours, 10:00am to 6:00pm.
