The Book Club Play at Horizon Theatre

By Kristin Gwock
Book clubs take the stage at Horizon Theatre this spring with the Atlanta premiere of The Book Club Play by Karen Zacarías. This hilarious comedy follows a tight-knit book club bound for pandemonium when it becomes the focus of a documentary film.
Says Horizon Co-Artistic Director Lisa Adler, “If you’ve ever been in a book club (or just think they’re bizarre), you’ll love laughing with this quirky group of long-time friends. This is the kind of smart romp that has become Horizon’s trademark, and we’re unleashing an ensemble of Atlanta’s most talented comic actors on our stage.” The cast includes Wendy Melkonian, Bryan Brendle, Maria Rodiriguez-Sager, John Benzinger, Danielle Deadwyler, and Dan Triandiflou, and is directed by Horizon Co-Artistic Director Jeff Adler.
Will the beloved book club survive? Sprinkled with wit, joy, and novels galore, laughter meets literature in this delightful new play about books, the people who love them, and the side-splitting results when friends start reading between the lines.
The Book Club Play runs May 17 – June 23, 2013. Performances are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 3 and 8:30pm, and Sunday at 5pm. Tickets are $20-$30. Tickets and information are available at horizontheatre.com or 404-584-7450. Bring your Book Club! Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more.
