Neighborhood Charter School Annual Yard Sale

by Carrie Teegardin
Bargain hunters take note: one of the biggest yard sales in Southeast Atlanta is coming soon.
The Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS)’s annual yard sale will take place Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19 at the elementary school’s campus at 688 Grant Street. Every year hundreds of families donate items to the sale, creating a massive selection of thousands of gently used items.
“It’s really the biggest and best yard sale you can imagine,” said Joy Gray Prince, president of the school’s Parent Teacher Community Association (PTCA). “There is something for everybody — amazing furniture and racks and racks of clothing for adults and kids. There are books, toys, artwork, and much more.”
The yard sale is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the school’s PTCA, which works year round to coordinate and promote parent, teacher and community involvement and communication within the school. All the money raised is used inside the school to support students, faculty, and staff, Prince said. The PTCA’s many projects include special school-wide events, mini-grants for teachers, sponsorship of arts and science programs, teacher appreciation week, and third Friday coffee.
The ANCS annual yard sale opens on September 18, with the special pre-sale from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This is a ticketed event and allows early access to all the sale’s items. Presale tickets are $5 each for adults and children and can be purchased at the door on Friday, September 18 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
The doors open again on Saturday, September 19, when the sale will run from 8:00am to 3:00pm. No tickets are required to shop on Saturday.
The Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School is a public school serving kindergarten through eighth grade at campuses in Grant Park and Ormewood Park. The school, which opened in 2001, was named the Georgia Charter Schools Association’s “2015 Charter School of the Year.”
