February Reception and Show at East Atlanta Library

By Henry Bryant
Like a true Pisces, Keith Frutiger has had the good fortune, with his artistic creations, to swim the many diverse streams of the art community. In a new East Atlanta Library show, “Easing Back to the Easel,” he revisits old ideas and introduces new ones in both his two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. Keith has always enjoyed transforming found objects and giving them new life. The current show at East Atlanta Library represents this inclination, as Keith and The Friends of East Atlanta Library (FEAL) present some new works that are a series of “voodoo dolls,” which are striking hand painted works of art, as well as multiple large paintings with environmental themes.
The Friends are inviting Porch Press readers to join in the fun with one of their popular artist receptions for Keith in which residents get a chance to meet the artist and hear from him about the works that he has created. The reception will be at the Library on Saturday, February 20 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Wine and other refreshments will be served. There will also be a showing on the big audio visual screen of Frutiger Murals from around town.
With a BFA degree in painting from the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Keith Frutiger has utilized his skills in every city where he has lived, painting both residential and commercial spaces, and he continues to be a muralist for the House of Blues/LiveNation venues. His paintings often have a theatrical format with a three-dimensional component, inviting the viewer to step into the painting. Keith also works as a local scenic artist in both theater and film/television productions.
Body painting is the newest addition to Keith’s artistic skills. For the last five years, he has competed in international body painting competitions held in Atlanta. At the reception for the artist later this month, a voodoo doll will come to life with one of the artist’s body-painting works. This doll will be a human model painted in the artist’s style – something Porch Press readers may not want to miss.
Keith Frutiger, who has resided in North Ormewood Park for years, has exhibited his artwork in Atlanta, Augusta, Chicago, New Orleans, and Miami.
