Battle of Atlanta Bike Tour Returns

By Henry Bryant
After several years of sold out bicycle tours during the annual BATL Commemoration Event held for the Battle of Atlanta anniversary in July, the bike tour will return this month on Saturday, September 26. “It will be a great opportunity for anyone who has wanted to go on this tour but was not able to make it when it was offered in July,” said BATL Tour Coordinator Valerie Molyneaux.
Last year after the 150th Anniversary of the battle, the organization switched things up a little. The bike tour this year will be held in conjunction with the annual East Atlanta Village Strut on September 26. The bike tour at the Strut will continue a year of programming for BATL.
Popular author and adventure guide, Jonah McDonald, will again lead the bicycle tour. Tickets will be $25 and are available online at www.BATLevent.org or by calling 404-377-6148. Spaces are limited and advance ticketing is available.
Bicycles and proper safety equipment are required and will not be provided. Cyclists should show up at the East Atlanta Library plaza area at 400 Flat Shoals Avenue between 8:30am and 9:00am. The Friends of the Library book sale will also be held on that day, and Flat Shoals Avenue will be closed south of Metropolitan Avenue. If bike tourists come by car, they should park on the street to allow library patrons to use the library lot. The tour will leave promptly at 9:00am and will return to the Strut festivities in time for lunch and plenty of fun.
