2014 Sounds of BATL

by Henry Bryant

In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta, the BATL organization has scheduled two musical performances for July 19th. The morning will bring a “brunch” performance by the Bow Weevils near the Dragon Sculpture on Flat Shoals in East Atlanta Village. Then at 1pm also on the 19th there will be a concert by the 8th Regiment brass military band. The concerts are free.

Concert Featuring the 8th Regiment Band

The 8th Regiment Band is a historical re-enactment band that plays music and instruments from the time of the Battle of Atlanta. There was an 8th Regiment Band in the North (New York) and in the South (Georgia) at the time of the Civil War. These current day Georgians wear authentic uniforms of both armies for this concert. The sound is one of full brass and drums that stirs the soul with a repertoire of music that the soldiers and citizens of 1864 would have enjoyed.
