WonderRoot, a nonprofit arts organization in our neighborhood, is launching the next portion of its Creative Explorations: Teen Open Studio Program. This initiative provides Atlanta Public School students with the opportunity to engage in a variety of artistic media, learn directly from professional artists, build community, and develop their sense of voice and self outside of academic walls. Students will showcase their work in WonderRoot’s annual juried youth exhibition in December 2015.
Classes will take place at the WonderRoot Community Arts Center, starting in September. This program is free for students and no previous experience or equipment is necessary. The class, called (Im)material Collaging, is a six-part intensive workshop that familiarizes students with Adobe Photoshop and Cyanotypes through collage. The workshop is meant to equip students with basic analogue and digital skills while learning about the history of image-making.
