Project GRAD Gets Reduced College Application Fees for Atlanta Public School Seniors

By Henry Bryant
Project GRAD Atlanta has been instrumental in securing a reduced rate from EDU, Inc. for high school students applying for college via the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Common Application. The cost of the application is $35; however, this amount was discounted to $14. Maynard Jackson High School is now a Project GRAD School focusing on student success leading to graduation and eventual success in college.
During the 2nd Annual Project for Day held on October 24 hosted by Project GRAD Atlanta, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce’s Atlanta Partners For Education (APFE), and the Atlanta Public Schools, 182 seniors applied to 34 colleges, resulting in over 6,000 college applications submitted. The partnership between Project GRAD Atlanta and EDU, Inc., along with the overwhelming success of this initiative has led EDU, Inc. to extend the discounted rate to all Atlanta Public Schools (APS) seniors until the end of the school year. Project GRAD Atlanta remains committed to increasing graduation rates by helping students and their families understand that college is attainable.
