By Tony Lankford
The historic Park Avenue Baptist Church (PABC) is preparing to celebrate 142 years of ministry within the Southeast Atlanta community. PABC began in 1870 with a house of worship closer to downtown at the corner of Bell and Gilmer Streets. The church then moved to what is now The Jane property before locating to Park Avenue in 1929. Today PABC is a vibrant and diverse community of faith still very active in the community of Southeast Atlanta.
The church will honor its heritage and celebrate the future with a service on Sunday, June 3, at 11:00am. The church’s archive room will be open and displaying historical items of the church’s history including the original communion set and a copy of the deed selling the Bell/Gilmer property to the now Ebenezer Baptist Church (church of Dr. Martin Luther King). Everyone is invited to both the service and lunch to follow.
