Annual Worship in the Park a Success

By Rev. Tony Lankford
On Sunday morning, September 16, four local congregations converged on the green space at the corner of Park Avenue and Berne Street for their annual Worship in the Park service. This year Rev. Henra Chennault, Associate Pastor at Park Avenue Baptist Church, preached a message entitled “Come as You Are.” A joint choir sang, and the multi-denominational group took communion together as symbol of unity and oneness.
Before doing the service together, both St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Park Avenue Baptist Church each held separate annual worship services in the park. Four years ago they began holding their services together at the Milledge Avenue fountain. With the opening of the Grant Park Farmer’s Market, the annual service moved to its current location and has expanded to also include Holy Comforter Episcopal Church and Martha Brown United Methodist Church.
If your local church would like information on being a part of next year’s service, please contact Tony Lankford, pastor of Park Avenue Baptist Church. All four of these congregations invite you to worship at a church in community. More information on these congregations can be found at www.stpaulgrantpark.org, www.marthabrown.org, www.holycomforter.episcopalatlanta.org, or www.parkavebaptist.com.
