The Wipes Are Ready to Rock

By Emily Staggs
Forget Dan Zanes. Give the Laurie Berkner CDs a rest. Go ahead and take They Might Be Giants’ “Here Come the ABC’s” songs out of rotation because The Wipes – one of the hottest family-friendly bands in existence — are coming to town.
Well…technically the band members live here in town…and okay, in fact, most live in the Grant Park, Ormewood, and East Atlanta neighborhoods. Regardless, they will be at The Graveyard Tavern on Saturday, May 7 from 3:00-5:00 pm, sharing their own funky brand of rock-n-roll covers, and you don’t want to miss it.
It’s a show for all ages so pack up the stroller, bring your own sippy cup, and prepare to rock out. Dancing is encouraged. Tickets are $8 each or two for $15 when purchased prior to the show at www.GPCP.org. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 each on the day of the concert. Kids 14 and under enter for free.
The Wipes, largely formed by moms and dads of children attending Grant Park Cooperative Preschool (GPCP), first banded together in 2006 for a concert benefitting the preschool. This year’s Wipes band has 10 members, including four original members – Adam Cole, Chris Hartley, Annette Wawerna, and Jason Berzsenyi. James Palmer, Rachel Quartarone, John McEvoy, Mike Bland, Chip Harlan, and Chris Berney complete the group.
Since its creation, members have come and gone, and songs have been added and deleted from the playlists. What remains constant, though, is the overwhelming good time had by everyone at the show – whether they are 1 or 101.
