Stacey Abrams Endorses Grant Park Neighbor

By Sydney Sevdalis

Stacey Abrams has endorsed Grant Park resident Rohit Malhotra in his campaign for the Fulton County Commission. Malhotra has centered his campaign on elections, public health, safety and access to county services.

“Rohit represents the bold, smart, and courageous leadership we need in this moment for Georgia and for Fulton County,” Abrams said. “We must elect Democrats like Rohit, those who are fiercely committed to protecting our elections and delivering real solutions for health, safety, the economy and justice.”

Abrams described Malhotra as someone building “a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational coalition of voters,” grounded in the belief that democracy must act for the people.

“I support and endorse Rohit because of his deep-rooted, proven commitment to community,” she said.

At a recent campaign town hall at the Plaza Theatre in Poncey-Highland, Malhotra outlined his priorities for county government. He began by asking attendees what they wanted him to address, then built much of the evening around their questions.

He described the county’s often misunderstood responsibilities, including Grady Memorial Hospital, courts and jails, libraries, arts funding, animal services, elections, property assessments, and senior services.

Healthcare and public safety were central to his remarks. Malhotra called for stronger maternal healthcare, with particular attention to disparities affecting Black women, and described gun violence as a public health crisis. He advocated greater county investment in community-based violence interruption, mental-health services, and diversion programs that could respond to some emergencies without relying exclusively on police.

Malhotra also proposed creating an office to help residents understand and challenge property assessments. He argued that county government should serve as a better coordinator among Fulton County’s cities, rather than sending residents from one government office to another.

On elections, he emphasized protecting poll workers and ensuring that voting operations remain properly staffed and resourced. Early voting for Georgia’s November 3, 2026 general election begins Tuesday, October 13, and ends Friday, Oct. 30. The voter-registration deadline is Monday, Oct. 5.
