The East Lake Family YMCA is currently registering and forming teams for their youth basketball and cheerleading programs. However, the deadline for registration, December 20, is fast approaching. The first games will be held in the first week of January 2014.
The basketball program is open to boys and girls from age 4 through 15. The league is divided into six different age groups. There is a discount for East Lake YMCA members to register so that their cost is only $60. The cost for members of other YMCAs is $80 and a program membership rate is offered for nonmembers at $100 plus the one-time $35 program membership fee. The fees include a reversible team jersey for each young hoopster and cover the cost of providing referees, staffing, and facilities. The younger age groups will play all games and practice at the East Lake facility. The older teams will participate in some inter-league offsite competition.
The cheerleading program is designed for girls ages 4 through 16 with divisions for younger (4-8) and older kids (9-16). The cost for regular YMCA members is $65 and the cost for program members is $90 plus the $35 program membership fee. All of the fees cover staffing, facilities, and a uniform for each participant.
The East Lake Family YMCA recently began an elite competitive cheerleading program at their new Teen Center located on Memorial Drive near Clifton. In their initial outings, the squad has performed impressively, placing in a recent competition even though they have only been together a short time.
The East Lake Family YMCA is located at 275 East Lake Boulevard at the corner of Memorial Drive. The Teen Center is on the corner of Memorial and Wilkinson. Programs at the YMCA offer young people of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to participate in a progressive league or squad where everyone can play, cheer, and have fun while sportsmanship, safety, and family involvement are emphasized.
