Volunteers working on the farm
Urban Farm in Ormewood (UFO), the “Friends Of” group and nonprofit steward of Red’s Farm Preserve, is proud to share that we have been awarded a Park Pride Visioning Grant. The announcement was made at this year’s Red’s Fall Fest, where neighbors gathered to celebrate the Farm and to honor Farmer Red’s memory.
The Park Pride Visioning Program leads a robust community engagement process and provides professional park design assistance – free of charge – to community groups seeking to imagine and plan a long-term vision for their neighborhood greenspaces.
Each visioning process seeks to represent a cohesive and collective voice for the community, resulting in a conceptual plan complete with design ideas, priorities, and cost estimates that can serve as a roadmap for future fundraising and potential improvements. Park Pride’s approach emphasizes community-led design, ensuring that every vision reflects the unique identity, needs, and values of the neighborhood it serves. Red’s Farm Preserve is a special natural haven in the heart of Ormewood Park, offering urban agriculture, community events, and environmental education. With this grant, the community will partner with Park Pride to explore the farm’s history, assess its current needs, and create a long-term vision plan that balances preservation, access, and future growth. This planning process will help guide decisions on potential improvements grounded in community priorities.
The visioning process is guided by a steering committee of neighborhood residents who are meeting regularly to shape the plan and guide outreach efforts.
Three public meetings will be held to invite input and ideas from the broader community:
- Meeting #1 – Big Ideas: December 16, 6:30pm-7:30pm, Ormewood Church. An open session to brainstorm goals and dream big.
- Meeting #2 – Preliminary Concepts: February 4, 2026, 6:30pm-7:30pm, Ormewood Church. A presentation and discussion of early design concepts based on community feedback.

- Meeting #3 – Vision Plan Presentation: April 22, 2026, 6:30pm-7:30pm, Ormewood Church. The unveiling of the final vision plan for Red’s Farm Preserve.
UFO will provide some kid-friendly activities during the meetings for those who bring their kids. Community surveys will also be distributed to gather input from those unable to attend in person.
This grant marks an important milestone for Urban Farm in Ormewood and the community it serves. By working together through the Park Pride Visioning Program, we will develop a shared plan that honors the legacy of Brian “Farmer Red” Harrison while laying the foundation for sustainable growth with community driven ideas.
UFO invites all neighbors to participate in this process, share ideas, and help create a vision that reflects the spirit and values of Ormewood Park at Red’s Farm Preserve. For updates, meeting details, and links to the community survey, visit ufoatlanta.org.
