On October 20, the Friends of East Atlanta Library (FEAL) invites everyone in the neighborhood to a costume party, art reception, jazz recital, and annual meeting. The meeting part will be short and sweet to allow plenty of time for the other activities. The fun will start at 6:00pm when regular library hours end and go until 8:00pm, just in time for dinner or other fun in East Atlanta Village. There will be wine and great munchies for all who come in costume, or at least a mask.
The artist is neighborhood favorite Walker Davis, whose work you may have seen at Kaboodle on Flat Shoals. Walker’s work has a campy pop art quality with bright colors and cinematic themes. It includes images of handsome hunks and glamorous femme fatales facing the dangers of dark nights and spooky haunts. All the artwork is for sale to benefit the library.
After a couple of years absence from the FEAL annual fall party, Tom Marnell and his combo will return this year with the cool sounds of Sinatra, Bennett, Ellington, Armstrong, and other jazz greats; familiar standards played in a classy, elegant style that has enriched the experience in the past. Marnell lives in the area, and you may have caught his act at some of Atlanta’s upscale hotels and nightspots.
FEAL volunteers always lay out a spread of food, but this free event is bigger and even more delicious than the usual finger food buffet. Plus, there will be wine for the costumed revelers. All members attending will be voting for board nominees, who will guide the organization in the coming year. But mostly, all will be enjoying each other’s company and meeting neighbors.
FEAL encourages all library lovers to join. There is no charge for admission. This drop-in party has become a very popular feature of the fall season, but with the addition of costumes and masks this year, it promises to be even more fun. It’s guaranteed to be all treats and no tricks.
