The South East Political Club announced plans to meet with the run-off candidates for the 1st and 5th Atlanta City Council seats. The meeting will be on November 18 at the usual time of 5:30 to 7:00 pm. They have invited from the 1st District ______ and _______. From the 5th they have invited ________ and ______. Each candidate will have 15 minutes to present their case. Candidates are encouraged to leave time for questions from the audience. The meeting is on zoom and is recorded for later viewing by club members. The run-off election is November 30. We have just 30 days to choose our new council members.
Club membership is open to any person in southeast Atlanta who has a strong interest in the political life of this section of the city. Zoom links to the meetings are available through neighborhood social media and are sent directly to members. To become a member, just let Paul Bolster know by sending him an email at bolsterp@bellsouth.net. Members are encouraged to forward links to friends and neighbors.
During the current City of Atlanta election season, the club has heard from candidates for Mayor, President of the City Council, At-large Posts 1, 2, and 3, and from all the candidates for District 1 and District 5.
The purpose of the Political Club, according to its founder Paul Bolster, is to “enhance political dialogue in this section of Atlanta and get our local concerns in front of our elected officials.” The Club plans to continue meeting after the election, (every third Thursday of the month), to discuss policy issues, hear from individuals involved in governing and to encourage participation in future elections.
Bolster thinks the political life of the community is year-round. “Let’s get good people elected and then hold them accountable for meeting our needs.” He likes people who like to talk politics and are willing to engage in the hard work of election campaigns.
