On Saturday September 30, the BATL organization will offer the Battle Starts Here Tour. Tickets and more information are available on line at www.batlevent.org and advance reservations are required. This tour that covers an area of the Battle of Atlanta north of I-20 is different than the Frontlines Tour. Like other monthly BATL tours of the battlefield, it tells of the soldiers on both sides who fought and died on one historic July day in 1864 in our part of town, as well as the people who lived on the battlefield. Also, tourists will get a taste of history from before the battle and stories of the neighborhoods that have grown here since. The tour visits the area of the railroad cut and the spot where the forces first engaged. For area residents, it is a chance to know a little more about the history of the place where we live.
