SAND Meeting Minutes – Thursday, November 13, 2025

Opening remarks – The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm.

Approval of October Meeting Notes – The meeting notes were approved without objection.

City/State/School/Other Elected Officials – Sgt. Frazier and Lt. Burks APD Zone 6 provided an update on crime statistics in the SAND area.

  • Zone 6 crime statistics October 13 to November 13 are: Burglaries 0, Motor Vehicle Thefts 3, Larceny from Auto 2, Aggravated Assaults 1.
  • In general, Zone 6 crime statistics are comparatively low.

Office of Zoning and Development Presentation – Brownfield revolving loan for cleanup of 884 McDonough Boulevard – No City of Atlanta representative attended the call.

SAND Activity Updates: SAND Makers Festival recap – Noah Trepper and Nicole Palmietto provided an update on the 2025 festival: There was a great turnout, and we had good volunteers throughout the day, the satellite music stage was well reserved, the Kids Zone was a HUGE success, there will be a 2026 Makers Festival in the fall next year.

2026 election upcoming for all positions in December: Review of current candidates and open positions.

  • V-25-192 – 1166 Woodland Avenue – Applicant Jordan Parker for owner Mary Katherine Shaw – Applicant seeks a variance to reduce the North side yard setback from 7 feet to 2 feet. This is a revised application. NPU-W LUZ Recommendation – Approval. A motion to recommend approval of the application was approved without objection.
  • V-25-236 – 1009 Glenwood Avenue – Applicant Elijah Nouvelage – Applicant seeks the following variances 1) reduce rear yard setback from 15’ to 2’-8” 2) increase allowable accessory structure area to 53% instead of 30% and 3) increase allowable height from 20’ to 21.5’. NPU-W LUZ Recommendation: Denial. An initial motion to recommend denial of the application failed 8 In Favor, 13 Opposed, 1 Abstaining. A second motion to recommend approval of the application was approved 13 In Favor, 8 Opposed, and 1 Abstaining.
  • Z-25-71- Citywide – Ordinance to require primary pedestrian entrances to provide push button activators where relationship of the street to the building is required. NPU-W LUZ Recommendation: No action required until December cycle. No action was taken.

Matters for Review and Comment

  • MSD-25-28 – Minor Subdivision Application for 1065 Benteen Avenue. This item is a revision.

Upcoming Community Meetings

  • NPU-W General Body meeting – November 19 at 7:00pm – This meeting will include elections for NPU-W Officers and Committee Chairs for 2026.
  • SAND meeting – December 11 at 7:30pm – This meeting will include elections for Officers and Committee Chairs for 2026.
