Ormewood Park Student Awarded Big Scholarship

Congratulations to Alexander S. Greene, Information Technology SLC student at Maynard Jackson High School, who is a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship (GMS). The scholarship is valued at over $375K. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.
Alex plans to attend Stetson University in Deland, Florida in the fall. Stetson University is a private university with four colleges and schools located across central Florida. Stetson is nationally recognized for its commitment to service and social justice-based community engagement and community-engaged learning. It is a Phi Beta Kappa University and is consistently rated as one of the top three schools in the South. Alex has a broad range of interests, but at present is planning to study math and possibly go towards engineering or architecture.
Maynard Jackson High School is located on Glenwood Avenue in Grant Park. The school is slated for extensive renovations in the next school year with students placed at a nearby campus. Alex and his family reside in Ormewood Park.
