The Oakland Cemetery’s Second Annual Tunes from the Tombs Festival is May 19 and 20. Hours on May 19 are from 1:00pm to 8:00pm and on May 20 from 1:00pm to 7:00 pm on the grounds of Historic Oakland Cemetery, 248 Oakland Avenue, Atlanta. Tickets may be purchased at the gates and will be $10 for one day or $15 for a two-day pass. Children 12 and under will be admitted for $5 or $10 for a two-day pass.
Saturday, May 19
Creative Loafing Stage
1:30pm – Nillah (Atlanta pop rock band reuniting just for TFTT – first show back together in years – female vocals)
2:30pm – Abby Wren and What It Is (female vocals, funk & R&B complete with amazing band, spotlight on the saxophone)
3:30pm – Ghost Riders Car Club (1960s style garage rock, male vocalist from the UK)
4:30pm – Lucy Dreams (Pretty Ambitious recording artist popular among the younger set)
5:30pm – WHAT THE…? (1960s style garage rock, backing band for Peter Case with amazing female guitarist)
6:30pm – Peter Case (famed songwriter and performer will play two sets: a solo acoustic set showcasing his brilliant songwriting; the second set with What The…? backing up Peter Case. He will perform songs from his Wig! album as well as classics from his formative years when he was in The Plimsouls, as well as The Nerves.)
Scoutmob Stage
1:00pm – Rebecca Loebe (Folk radio chart-topping songwriter, and contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” performs her sweet ballads. Last name pronounced “low-bee”)
2:00pm – The Serenaders (have played Oakland before, upbeat rockabilly pop)
3:00pm – Villain Family (celebrating their new release “Southern Lovers”… their song “Downtown” references Oakland)
4:00pm – Blake Rainey and his Demons (veteran songwriter Blake Rainey and upright bass player Joe Foy play poignant songs)
5:00pm – Fourth Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra (a big hit last year at TFTT, an amalgam of musical styles with a horn section)
6:00pm – Alexa Woodward (banjo-wielding songstress with a law degree from Columbia, South Carolina celebrates the release of her new album “It’s a Good Life Honey If You Don’t Grow Weary”)
7:00pm – Jon Byrd (former Atlantan returns from current home in East Nashville to perform his alt-country/Americana songs)

3:00pm – Catfight! (much-loved all girl rock trio reuniting especially for TFTT 2012)

This stage features a full day of performances from students and instructors from CMC Atlanta.

1:00pm – Gypsy Sally (acoustic southern rock)
2:00pm – Muleskinner MacQueen (excellent southern songs with a long beard)
3:00pm – Strung Like a Horse (most popular band from Chattanooga plays their southern songs) 4:00pm – Mike Snowden (cigar box guitarist)
5:00pm – Morella and the Wheels of If (from New Orleans, steam-punk flavored performance art trio dressed in Victorian garb)
6:00pm – The Ford Family Tree (Ford Family from New Orleans featuring Frankie Ford (son) on harp, Jimmy Ford (dad) on percussion and Sue Ford (mom) on vocals and guitar)
Buskers/Street Performers are showcased throughout Oakland.
Sunday, May 20 Creative Loafing Stage
1:00pm – AM Gold (southern rock sounds with Joel Burkhart on vocals featuring local celebrity Jim Stacy)
2:00pm – Sodajerk (rockin’ four-piece originally from Pittsburgh transplanted to Atlanta)
3:00pm – von Grey (all girl pop act)
4:00pm – Geoff Achison and the Souldiggers (rare show from blues act from Australia with a huge Atlanta following)
5:00pm – Sol Junky (southern rock with male/female vocals celebrating their release of their new video, appropriately titled “Dead and Gone”)
6:00pm – The Whiskey Gentry (one of the most-loved, most-attended bands in Atlanta perform their southern music with female vocals… from Cabbagetown)
Scoutmob Stage
1:00pm – Dodd Ferrelle (Athens singer/songwriter)
2:00pm – Alick Gerard and the Dixie Ltd (1940’s Hank Williams flavor songs)
3:00pm – Screen Door Porch (Americana male/female duo all the way from Wyoming)
4:00pm – Atlanta Sacred Harp Singers (a staple at Oakland, 20+ performing shape note music, honoring the memory of Oakland resident and “Sacred Harp” hymnal author BF White, a holy and transcendent experience)
5:00pm – The Bonaventure Quartet (named Creative Loafing’s Best Jazz Band in Atlanta 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011!)
6:00pm – The Usual Suspects (13+ piece big band music)

3:00pm – Hudson K (multi-purpose artist featuring the songs of Christina Horn)
4:00pm – Stark Trio (two 45-minute sets from local jazz trio)
