News from Maynard Jackson High School

By Carlen Hultgren
The Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP) announced Stephanie Johnson, Ed.S, principal of Maynard H. Jackson High School (MHJHJ), as a finalist for this year’s Principal of the Year.
“This is an honor to be named as a finalist among such an illustrious group of candidates,” Johnson said. “My passion to ensure that each student actualizes their highest potential is fueled by an earnest hope that I am providing them with the tools necessary for success.”
The Principal of the Year program recognizes principals who excel in educational leadership, resolve complex problems, develop self and others, and serve the community. The application is an extensive review of the performance of each applicant and their schools. Each finalist will participate in a final interview process in Athens to determine the Georgia Principal of the Year.
On an artistic note, WonderRoot, an arts organization that works to improve the cultural and social landscape of Atlanta through creative initiatives and community partnerships, is looking for MHJHJ students to participate in another free creative skill-building class called “(Im)material Collaging.” It will be offered to students at MHJHS in the coming months. The class will occur weekly from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the WonderRoot Community Arts Center. Transportation will be provided.
