New Parkside Stride Peachtree Qualifier

By Rebecca Wallace
On March 19, the PTA of Parkside Elementary School, which serves Grant Park, Summerhill, Boulevard Heights, Ormewood Park, and Cabbagetown, will welcome all runners in the Southeast Atlanta area and beyond to the inaugural Parkside Stride 5K and 1-mile race.
“The Parkside Stride is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier, which we know will be attractive to many of our neighborhood runners,” said Parkside Stride Committee Chair and parent Leigh Schrope. “All funds raised will go to the Parkside PTA to help ensure that our events continue to be accessible to all students.”
Parkside students can run the 5K for only $8 and the 1-mile for $5. Parents and non-Parkside families are welcome to run the 5K for $25 and the 1-mile for $15. The fees include a race shirt designed by Parkside dad and artist Brody Boyer. The races start at 8:00am at Parkside. The 5K will pass the kids’ future high school, Maynard Jackson, and wind through Ormewood Park.

At Parkside, diversity that reflects the community beyond the walls and a sense of community within our walls is at the core of our pride. The school provides varied support services including Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). New to the staff this year is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Specialist who is shared with Toomer Elementary School. The IB Specialist will support Parkside in its journey toward becoming an IB candidate school along with all Jackson Cluster schools.
