New Grant Park Resident Working for Voter Protection

By Paul Bolster

New Grant Park Resident Cecelia Baldwin is now the voter protection director for the Democratic Party of Georgia.

She recently spoke to the Mid-Fulton Democrats and outlined the need for volunteers to help insure everybody’s vote is counted. There will be significant need for poll watchers on Election Day to make sure the voting process runs smoothly. These volunteers will need to go through training in advance of election day and be assigned to a precinct somewhere in metro Atlanta. She hopes the “long days will be boring and that any issues are quickly resolved.”

There will also be a need for volunteers to staff the Voter Protection Hotline on election day and for some days prior to the November election. Legislation passed in the last legislative session has made it easier to file a challenge to large groups of registered voters. It is smart to check mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/ to make sure you are not one of those challenged voters. Don’t think NPU W boundaries protect you from a challenge. If you discover a problem it will be easier to resolve the issue now than on Election Day. The Party also will need trained volunteers to staff the Hot Line.

Baldwin also said the party will be urging the Fulton Board of Elections to train people as Deputy Registrars. Be on the lookout for that opportunity.
