There are several programs and activities planned for this year’s Commemoration of the Battle of Atlanta on July 23 a day after the anniversary of the historic battle. The BATL organization will be featuring wreath-laying ceremonies at 10:00am and 10:45am. The Old Guard of Atlanta will be on hand at the Walker Monument and the McPherson and Elias Moon Camps of the Sons of Union Veterans will be at General McPherson’s Monument.
A new BATL tour, “Civil War to Civil Rights,” will premier in the afternoon. The tour includes several Civil Rights sites important to the history of Atlanta and Georgia as well as some critical in the Battle of Atlanta. Visitors will hear stories of the men who fought in the battle that changed the course of US history as well as the story of two young students who made a difference for all who have come after them. Advance tickets are required and can be purchased until June 10 at www.batlevent.org. Spaces are limited. Information about the wreath ceremonies and future month’s tours is at the website, also. Or you can call (404) 377-6148.
