Key Updates from November 2024 SAND Meeting

Crime Reduction: Lt. Godwin from the Atlanta Police Department Zone 6 reported a significant decrease in major crime categories within the SAND neighborhoods over the last 28 days. However, theft from motor vehicles remains a prevalent issue.

Beautification Efforts: SAND continues to collaborate with Urban Farm in Ormewood, Inc. (UFO). A financial agreement with UFO having SAND act as fiscal agent is nearing finalization.

Transportation: The Moreland Avenue SE/I-20 interchange project is anticipated to begin in Spring 2025. Additionally, ATL DOT is planning sidewalk improvements and crosswalk installations on Moreland Avenue in 2025/2026. 

Community Engagement: SAND successfully hosted the 2nd Annual Benteen Park Fall Fest, which was well-attended and generated a small profit.

Zoning and Development:  SAND voted to deny a proposed zoning change (Z-24-82) / (24-O-1586), citing a lack of justification and supporting information.

Elections: SAND members elected new officers for 2025.

Announcements: Community members are encouraged to participate in the upcoming Post 3 at-large runoff election on 3 December 2024.
