Karate School Kids Support Community

By R L Williams
Kick Start Martial Arts™ (KSMA) has once again shown its commitment to this community by running a backpack drive to benefit the Emmaus House Scholars.
Emmaus House was founded in 1967 by Father Austin Ford for the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and the House has been a consistent presence in the Peoplestown neighborhood for over four decades. Opened in the wake of groundbreaking civil rights legislation and amidst local struggles with school desegregation, low-income housing shortages and growing poverty, Emmaus House is focused on capacity building among poor and marginalized residents and offers 100,000 hours per year of vital programs and services.
This past summer, Emmaus House hosted its first Children Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools program. The CDF Freedom Schools program seeks to build strong, literate and empowered children prepared to make a difference in themselves, their families, communities, nation and world. By providing summer and after-school reading enrichment programs for children who might otherwise not have access to books, the CDF Freedom Schools plays a much needed role in helping to curb summer learning loss and close achievement gaps. This is a key part of CDF’s work to ensure a level playing field for all children.
KSMA provided 37 new or like new backpacks, each filled with school supplies to support these scholars as they continue to pursue excellence.
Kyo Sah Nim Beaty teaches children as young as five, as well as older youth and adults. He also has a growing number of families that train together. Beaty understands that students learn differently at different stages of life, thus the different types of classes offered. KSMA is located across from Little Azios in the Ormewood Square.
Beaty holds a third-degree black belt and is a master instructor candidate under Grand Master Sung Soo Kim and Tong Hwan Kim. He was awarded Excellence in teaching by martial art industry and granted certified instructor by Chief Grand Master Tong Mun Kim, president of the Global Tang Soo Doo Association and Hall of Fame inductee.
If you would like more information about martial arts training at KSMA, please contact Mr. Beaty at 404-664-3485 or via email at kickstartatl@gmail.com.
