It’s almost time for the Grant Park Summer Shade Festiva. Now in its tenth year, this art, music, and food festival celebrates the city’s oldest park and its fantastic historic neighborhood.
During Summer Shade each year, visitors also flock to the ticketed area Corks and Forks: A Fine Food & Wine Event, where some of Atlanta’s best chefs share their favorite summer recipes. Even better, the festival supports the work of the Grant Park Conservancy, the organization that maintains the park.
Summer Shade is an entire weekend of fun. It kicks off with the Adams Realtors 5K Run for the Park on Saturday morning. This run raises funds for the Grant Park Conservancy, as it allows runners and walkers to enjoy the beautiful neighborhood. Pre-registration is available at www.adamsrealtors.com. On site registration is also available that morning.
Once the Summer Shade Festival opens, it brings a juried and a non-juried Artist Market, two stages of live music, special areas and entertainment for the kids, and plenty to eat and drink to the park. Corks and Forks takes place during the festival on both days from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, and in addition to food and wine sampling, includes cooking demos, educational culinary seminars and a thrilling chef Grill-Off.
Sunday morning also includes the Grant Park Farmers Market. The Summer Shade Festival is a great way to spend one of summer’s last weekends outdoors in one of the city’s most beautiful green spaces.
The fun takes place Saturday and Sunday, August 25 (10:00am to 10:00pm) and August 26 (11:00am to 7:30pm) throughout the park, and the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival is a free event! More information and Corks & Forks tickets are available at www.summershadefestival.org.
