Grant Park Security Patrol Needs Neighborhood Support!

By Alyssa Kaufman
Maybe you’re new to Grant Park or maybe you’ve been living here for 10+ years. Either way, one thing is for sure…the Grant Park Security Patrol (GPSP) is not something enough people know about and it needs your help!
In a nutshell, the primary goal of GPSP since its formation has been to suppress daytime residential burglaries. In that mission it has been very successful through the years. Since its inception in 1990, crime in the neighborhood has dropped by 70%! Still, membership levels are very low, so imagine what a difference the patrol could make with more support from Grant Park households. At present membership levels there are 24 hours of patrol coverage per week. The goal is to increase this to 40 hours per week before the holiday season arrives and when crime typically picks up.
Membership is only $40 per quarter or $160 for the full year. Fees pay for off-duty City of Atlanta police officers to patrol our neighborhood during the times that crime statistics find our homes/properties to be the most vulnerable. Although “off duty,” these police officers still retain full policing powers when working for us.
As a member of GPSP, you can expect several benefits of membership such as vacation requests to have your home checked on by officers when you are going to be out of town.
We have a wonderful park, growing schools, thriving businesses, and incredible amenities, but the most important key to a successful community is a safe community. Please consider joining the Grant Park Security Patrol and doing your part to help build a stronger, safer place to live. Visit www.gpna.org/security-patrol and click on “join the GPSP.”
