Since 1980, one of the highlights of Atlanta’s Christmas holiday season has been the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes. While there are some jewels like the antebellum Grant Mansion and the 1868 Burns Mansion that have been featured on the tour multiple times over the years, the homes on the tour are never the same each year. Every tour is unique and provides an opportunity to see old and new homes, large and small, restorations and renovations, and the creative holiday spirit of your Grant Park neighbors.
The tour usually features eight to 10 homes, and the Tour of Homes committee is looking for nominations of all shapes and sizes to be considered for inclusion on the tour this year. Tour homes don’t need to be extravagant or “HGTV-ready,” because part of the attraction of the Grant Park Candlelight Tour is the diversity of homes that can be featured. Past tour-goers have enjoyed the charm of a cozy 1920s cottage lovingly decorated for the holidays just as much as they have enjoyed the “wow” factor of a newly built home.
Traditionally taking place the second weekend of December, the 2017 tour is set for December 9 and 10. Proud homeowner in Grant Park who enjoy decorating for the holidays and want to spread joy while helping support some worthy community organizations should consider nominating their homes to be on the 2017 Tour of Homes. Or, if there is a particular home that you’d like to see on the tour, you can also nominate it as a candidate.
The Candlelight Tour of Homes committee will be taking nominations for homes only until mid-October. Tour homes will be chosen based on a number of factors including location, diversity of age and architectural style, distinctiveness, overall condition, homeowner enthusiasm and willingness to decorate. Homeowners of featured tour homes will enjoy a private homeowners’ reception, gift bags, complimentary tour tickets, a special commemorative poster that can be proudly displayed on the wall for years to come, and the pride and joy that comes with sharing a holiday home with happy people.
Tour home nominations should be emailed to gpctoh@gmail.com by October 15, and should include the street address, owner’s name and contact information (if known), your name (if different), and the reason you think the home should be included on the 2017 tour. Tour committee members will consider all nominations. Once the selections have been made and homeowners contacted, the lucky homes selected will be posted in advance with all other tour details on the tour website: CandleLightTourofHomes.com.
Be a part of the fun and nominate your home or the home of another today, and mark December 9 and 10 on your calendar for the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes.
