Officials for state, city, county, and school board government will be elected on November 7. Some candidates are running again for their current positions. Other offices are vacant, and some are running for the first time.
The Atlanta mayor has served out his two terms, so that office is open. Twelve candidates have qualified to run for mayor. To run for mayor, some of those candidates had to relinquish their current elected offices. This has left several city of Atlanta council districts, some county commission seats, and some spots in the state legislature open. Everyone on the school board is up for reelection. In addition, several Atlanta City Council incumbents who have not been challenged in the past are facing challengers this time.
November 7 will be an election with a large field of candidates. Voters should study all the candidates and their qualifications before going to vote.
Early voting starts on October 16 and runs through November 3, at selected locations in Fulton and DeKalb counties. In Fulton County, there will be Saturday and Sunday early voting. On Saturday, October 28, the polls will be open from 8:30am to 7pm. On Sunday, October 29, the polls will be open from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
Any run-off elections will be on December 5, at the regular polling places. For additional information on the election or voter registration, call 404-298-4020 or visit www.fultonelections.com.
