The East Atlanta Library branch closed in September of 2019 for remodeling and renovation. Then the pandemic hit and closed all of the other libraries down in March of 2020. Staff at East Atlanta was temporarily assigned to other libraries while the work was being done. Pandemic shutdowns also affected the construction schedule. Finally, earlier this spring the work was completed and the library had a limited reopening. Books could be ordered for curbside pick-up. Recently, the library reopened for full service. A ribbon cutting was held on Friday July 2, 2021. The library now has more computers and everything has been refreshed. Study rooms have been added so that small groups no longer will need to occupy the meeting room space. The Friends of East Atlanta Library have also been on hiatus during the months that the library was closed for redo and Covid. Their activities will begin again soon.
