Charles R. Drew Charter School’s DESIGNORAMA, an annual family-friendly celebration of inventing, making, and creativity, will take place on Saturday, March 17, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Drew Charter School campus. A hybrid between a maker faire, an art festival, a science center, and a tech convention, this one-of-a-kind event will be packed with interactive activities for all ages as well as demonstrations and showcases. DESIGNORAMA brings together unique local vendors, technology gurus, educational institutions, and makers of all kinds – from movie set designers to video game developers to pastry chefs – to share their work and inspire others to pursue their own creativity.
The theme of DESIGNORAMA 2018 is Cause and Effect. The event will feature products and services designed and innovated with user relationships in mind. From Rube Goldberg machines to museum exhibit design challenges to making with artists, causal relationship experiences and attractions for every interest are in the works at this year’s event. DESIGNORAMA will feature an onsite sculpture with public artist Jeff Mather. Mather is a prominent environmental sculptor and teaching artist from Atlanta. Attendees are encouraged to contribute to this unique, community-built sculpture. Students of the Senior Academy Lit class will be performing a 45-minute play in response to the novel The Great Gatsby. The play is entirely student written, directed and performed. Students have designed an open set for the production that will allow audience members to follow performers during the play. The Autos Through the Ages car show also will be part of the festivities, demonstrating how vehicles have changed over time to meet the needs of each new generation of drivers.
Drew Charter School is proud to host DESIGNORAMA in affiliation with the Westminster Schools, the Atlanta Science Festival, and the STE(A)M truck. This event is free and open to all, and will take place outdoors on Drew Charter School’s campus, located at 300 and 301 East Lake Boulevard, Atlanta, GA, 30317.
