By Henry Bryant and Dawn Rivera
The crosswalk painting photos in the January-February issue of Porch Press were from Phase I of a project funded primarily by a $15,000 grant awarded to the East Atlanta Community Association (EACA) by the City of Atlanta Department of Planning, Office of Mobility Planning in 2019.
This is a correction to the information included in the original caption for those photos. Further, the East Atlanta Strut and the East Atlanta Foundation each contributed $500 to an artist stipend for Phase I of the project, which was awarded to local mural artist Krista Jones.
EACA has worked extensively with the Office of Mobility Planning on the required community input process and other planning for this grant project, led by East Atlanta resident Alex Francombe. Francombe created EACA’s 2018 Placemaking Survey, which laid the groundwork for our March 2019 Placemaking Grant application. Francombe and Dawn Rivera worked on this application with Sarah Kuehn Spencer in her first involvement with EACA. Kuehn Spencer was elected the 2021 president of the East Atlanta Community Association in December.
Phase II of the grant project, a “Community Porch” with wayfinding signs, will be installed soon on the sidewalk near Joe’s East Atlanta Coffee Shop. Watch for more on this project as it is finished.
