“The Battle Starts Here Tour” will begin at 2:00pm on April 8(??). The tour is an easy hike through the Kirkwood neighborhood down to the edge of East Atlanta. It begins near the railroad cut and Dekalb Avenue, and then meanders towards the spot where the Battle of Atlanta actually began on July 22, 1864. Outlining the activities in the area that led up to that confrontation, visitors will hear the exciting story of the initial clash and see the terrain where it happened. In addition they will see one of the earliest cemeteries in Dekalb County and hear some of the history of Kirkwood, an Atlanta suburb that began as its own town. This is one of the monthly tours of the Battle of Atlanta battlefield. Tickets are required and can be purchased with a donation to the BATL organization at their website, www.batlevent.org.
