In honor of Historic Preservation Month, a special EABA (East Atlanta Business Association), East Atlanta Village tour is being offered in partnership with BATL (the Battle of Atlanta Commemoration Organization, Inc.). The tours will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 22-23. This event was in the planning stage for last year, when COVID cancelled all in- person events.
The Front Lines Walking Tour travels along the front lines of the Civil War Battle of Atlanta to focal points in historic East Atlanta. It provides an action-packed overview of the battle while walking through its most contested land. Attendees will hear human stories of the battle. Guides, Henry Bryant and Katina Van Cronkite, authors of East Atlanta – Images of America, provide a realistic sense of troop movements while relating the early history and growth of this important business node at numerous key sites. Learn how this vibrant neighborhood made the journey from pioneer days through the Civil War conflict and into the Civil Rights era.
The tour takes about an hour and a half, is an easy walk, behind and in front of the lines where troops were on the move on July 22, 1864. Visitors will learn about the men who fought in this historic battle that changed the course of US history, the early settlers who forged a life here, and the citizens who brought business and commerce to the area, planting the seeds to grow this unique community. Advance tickets will be required to attend. Email hello@eastatlantabiz.com for more information.
