Atlanta Beltline’s Southeast Trail Close to Fall Opening

By The Urbanize Atlanta Team

After more than two years of construction, the Southeast Trail—formerly Segments 4 and 5—on the Atlanta Beltline is visibly taking shape. This key connects Glenwood Avenue to Boulevard, linking Grant Park, Ormewood Park, and Boulevard Heights. This section covers 1.2 miles of the 22-mile loop forming the Beltline

According to Atlanta Beltline Inc. officials, segments 4 and 5 of the trail remains on track for a fall 2025 opening, although much work remains to be done. Unexpected hurdles involving underground utilities at United Avenue wiped out the Beltline’s earlier goal of opening the trail last spring, officials have said.

Much of Segment 4 has been paved (stretching from United Avenue to Boulevard), bridge railings installed, and retaining walls and trail columns placed. Overall, key infrastructure is advancing. The Ormewood Avenue bridge has been installed, along with railings. Backfilling just to the north of the bridge is mostly complete. Installation of light poles along the stretch between United Avenue and Boulevard is ongoing. Just north of the United Avenue bridge, columns for a new ramp up to the trail and retaining walls have been installed. There is no paved trail yet between United Avenue and Glenwood Avenue/Glenwood Park. However, a ramp system has been installed just north of this location at Delmar Avenue. Work on the Ormewood Avenue bridge continues.

Meanwhile, TPA Residential is building 300 apartments and townhomes on an 8.2-acre site adjacent to the trail in Boulevard Heights, with the first units expected by early 2026.

The trail is key to uniting several southeast Atlanta neighborhoods and extending the Beltline’s connectivity. As infrastructure and housing continue to develop in tandem, the trail is slowly but surely transforming from a construction zone to a community asset.
