GPNA May 2021 Meeting Minutes

Call to Order–Tuesday, May at 7:30pm.

President’s Introduction

Appointment for Transportation Chair – Phil Kelly. Adelee LeGrand has moved into a supporting role, and Phil Kelly was appointed.

Announcement of Backing Historic Small Restaurants grant. Daddy D’z BBQ is one of the winners of this grant for $40,000 for restaurant support and building repairs.

Maynard Jackson High School (Booster Club) yearly donation – field banner. Request of $400 for a new banner. Neighbor requests that we ask the principal to attend GPNA meetings and send their updates to The Porch Press. The banner will be redesigned

Approval of the April Minutes: Minutes are approved.

Item One – Public Safety

Zone 6 Update – Lt. Carroll: Reminder to keep cars clean. Reminder: NPU-public safety meeting 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 19. ZOOM connection is found at NPU-W website. Policing Alternatives & Diversion Initiative (PAD) Neighborhood Survey. Reminder about 911 vs 311 vs 511 (see slides).

Item Two – Land Use & Zoning

460 Connally Street – Item, request, recommendation. Assuming newer variance application has stalled because there is no news. 

289 Little Street – A resolution for removal of zoning condition by the Council member. Original version: The following uses shall be prohibited: (d) Personal service establishments including barber shops, beauty shops, and manicure/nail shops. Amended version: The following uses shall be prohibited: (d) Personal service establishments including barber shops, beauty shops, and manicure/nail shops above 2,000 sq/ft. Doug Lueder, the applicant presented, he has responses from 10 neighbors in agreement, interest for salon to be in the building. Motion passed and it will sent to NPU-W.

Updates on Cherokee Bike Lane: Parking on west side of Cherokee has been removed and prohibited, and there is a new bike lane. Upcoming MARTA meeting about expanding the Streetcar (doesn’t affect Grant Park, but affects city). MARTA Streetcar East Extension Project: Thursdat, May 27, 2021 @ 6:00pm (day after NPU-W). Item Three – Treasurer’s Update

$18,532.46 in the bank, $6549.00 in PayPal. Michelle Botwinick has agreed to file out taxes.

New Business: Steve Powner asks GPNA for a donation to Nicholas House for their capital campaign. Motion to support a donation of $500; motion passed.
