With fall weather finally upon us, folks in the Porch Press neighborhoods can’t wait to get outside. Everyone is invited to the 12th Annual Parkside PTA Fall Festival on Saturday, October 29, from 10:00am to 2:00pm on the grounds of Parkside Elementary. All students from Parkside, which serves Grant Park, Summerhill, Boulevard Heights, Ormewood Park, and Cabbagetown, will receive 10 free tickets to participate in a variety of activities, as well as a FREE Panda Meal, which includes a hotdog and drink. Open to the entire community, additional tickets and a variety of other food items will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going back to the Parkside PTA.
Festival-goers will enjoy jumpy houses, a video gaming truck, a petting zoo, and face painting. Other activities will include carnival-style games with prizes run by the teachers and parent volunteers, as well as a DJ spinning tunes for an old school dance party.
Parkside is able to offer the free tickets and meals to its students because of the generous support of the school’s sponsors. Parkside Elementary School, located at 685 Mercer St., is reflective of the diverse community it serves. The school’s multifaceted approach includes reduced class sizes and varied support services including gifted and talented, special education, and English as a second language. The school has on staff an International Baccalaureate (IB) Specialist who works with another nearby elementary school. The IB specialist will support Parkside in its journey toward becoming an IB candidate school.
