GPNA Meeting Minutes – December 15, 2015

President, Lauren Rocereta: Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility. Thank you to Zoo Atlanta for allowing the use of the building for the meeting. Next meeting is Tuesday, January 19at 7:30pm. New member welcome and introductions. Presented $500 grants to each of Grant Park’s local schools. Updates from each school. Stephanie Johnson, Maynard Jackson High SchoolOffers IB, AP, early college, dual enrollment, and several study abroad trips. Mr. Howard, King Middle SchoolKing recently hosted a math competition. Debate team and robotics team is doing well. Wesley International AcademyNo Report. Atlanta Neighborhood Charter SchoolWinterfest will be held on December 15 through 17. Parkside ElementaryFeasibility study currently being conducted for IB program. Community meeting is on December 15. Hunter Hanger: Arts at Oakland Event on April 16. Motion to support approved unanimously. Becky Katz: Chief Bicycle Officer, City of Atlanta introduced herself. Send suggestions on how to improve bike infrastructure to bkatz@atlantaga.gov Vice President, Jeffrey Rogers: Passed around a sign-up and volunteer sheet; make sure your information is correct. Advised new members to check in or sign in. Secretary, Kristin Andris: Presented minutes from November 2015. Economic Development Committee Chair, Rob Bernier: Update on Grant Park Grinchy Gathering, December 10, 6-8 p.m., Ziba’s Bistro. 120 people were there. Next Gathering will be in February at Bada Bings. Public Safety Committee Chair, Chris Newman:You can volunteer for neighborhood watch by emailing brad.nevin@gmail.com. Grant requests: Donated $100 to Zone 6 holiday toy drive and $500 to Grant Park Ambassadors. Zone 6 APD update – Major PeakeCrime update. Make sure your property is well and look out for your neighbors. Be aware of your surroundings; dont be distracted by electronics. Transportation, Jim Vorix: MARTA Route 32 Changes – City Council Member Carla Smith organized  time for MARTA officials to hear concerns of neighbors. Bill Kennedy Way Accidents Update – Efforts to put up high visiblity signs. Land Use and Zoning, Rick Hudson: Grindhouse Killer Burgers is coming to Memorial. Turner Field Update – Stay tuned to GPNA social media for continuous updates. This Old House TV show is looking for a Grant Park renovation for upcoming show. Homes & History, Paul Simo: New Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs) – Mercer and Eloise lots will hold seven houses with shared driveways. Historic Design Regulations Rewrite Update. 2016 Fundraiser: Come see renovation of 367 Park Avenue, which was featured on Tour of Homes. Details to be announced later. Tip of the Month – Close vents in your foundation. Interior magnetic storm windows are a great option to preserve historic windows and help with air flow issues. Fundraising: Mothball raised about $5,000 to $6,000. Technology: No report. Meeting minutes from November 2015 approved.
