Join the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) at Barnes & Noble in the Edgewood Shopping District located at 1217 Caroline Street for a day of holiday shopping and fun. The day will be sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Community Association (PTCA) on Saturday, December 5 from 9:00am until 10:00pm. A portion of all proceeds will benefit ANCS, which serves Grant Park and Ormewood Park for grades K-8, and was ranked Georgia’s #1 charter school in 2015. Visit the Georgia Charter Schools Association website at www.gacharters.org/press-releases/atlanta-neighborhood-charter-school-is-gcsas-2015-school-of-the-year for more information on school rankings.
In addition to holiday shopping and free gift-wrapping, the ANCS Shopping Day will host family activities at Barnes & Noble all day, including dance lessons, a special dance performance by Dance 411 studios, a writing workshop with popular YA author Terra McVoy, indie pop music by Nerdkween and guitarist Jimmy Galloway, a concert by local acoustic folk-rock group The Ormewoods, an interactive art exhibit with Emory University, a lip sync competition, and story time with NPR’s Steve Goss.
“We have a great lineup of family-friendly activities that will make holiday shopping stress-free and fun for a day,” said Jess Bowers, official spokesperson for the event. “There will be something for everyone to do and a gift for everyone on your list from gadgets to books to toys and games. And a part of everything you do and buy will benefit the school.”
Other events include appearances from ANCS’ own family. Parent and cookbook author Jessica Harlan will offer cooking tips, and parent and author Laurel Snyder will read from one of her children’s books.
ANCS students of all ages will also pitch in on the fundraising effort. Decadent Cheesecake Factory Bakery® cheesecake sales will be coordinated by the ANCS choir and the baseball team, and 8th graders will handle free gift-wrapping for shoppers. ANCS cheerleaders are planning a special cheer, and the school mascot, Wolfie, is rumored to appear as well.
“The students, parents, and the community are pitching in to make this PTCA fundraiser a success, as well as continuing to invest in our Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School. Together, we are determined to make the 2015 Barnes & Noble Shopping Day a festive event that raises funds for our school,” said Mrs. Joy Prince, president of ANCS’s PTCA.
The ANCS Shopping Day promises a day of fun for everyone, but if you can’t make it to Edgewood, you can still contribute to the cause. From December 5 through December 10, proceeds from online shopping will benefit the charter school when you visit www.bn.com/bookfairs and enter ID 11705423. Cheesecake orders can be made until November 29; your order will be ready for pickup at Barnes & Noble on December 5.
