This year’s best after-Thanksgiving shopping is happening on Saturday, November 29 at the local Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Edgewood Retail District, where all purchases will benefit the Maynard Jackson High School (MJHS) Parent, Teacher, and Student Association (PTSA). Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of all sales from books, Nooks, games, gift cards, and even sweet treats and warm drinks from the café when you mention MJHS at the register during purchase.
“We are very community oriented here at Barnes and Noble, and often our customers become very much like extended family,” said Layne Wiggins, manager of the Edgewood Barnes & Noble. “We consider MJHS ‘our’ high school and are proud to support it and all of our neighboring schools as much as possible.”
Barnes & Noble opens at 9:00am and closes at 10:00pm on November 29 and will have MJHS volunteers on hand all day to help shoppers. Need a book review? Need someone to wrap a package? Assistance will be available from student athletes and families who will be there supporting the school’s new booster program. Just need some caffeine and for the kids to play with some Legos or at the train table? They will be available too.
The day will also include book readings, signings from local authors, a poetry slam, and a band performance by MJHS students. Be sure to visit and join the Maynard Jackson High School PTSA Facebook page to find out the schedule of activities and other news regarding the big shopping day.
“We are really thankful to Barnes & Noble for this opportunity and hope that our community shows their appreciation and support to both the store and our students and teachers at MJHS by stopping by to shop and visit with us on November 29,” said MJHS PTSA President Kimberly Currier. “We have so much energy and great things happening at MJHS, and we really want our neighborhoods to be an active part of our exciting growth and achievements.”
If you can’t be there on Saturday, you can still participate through an online bookfair also beginning on Saturday, November 29 until Thursday, December 4 by shopping at www.BN.com/bookfairs and following the prompts. Additionally, feel free to share the online book fair information far and wide as it can be used by anyone at any location during these dates.
