Public Official Update
Councilmember Jason Winston updates: New stop signs have been going up along with supplemental signage to make sure everyone is aware of the new installations. There will be a new sign going up on Atlanta and United. Cherokee bike lanes are projected to start on September 8. Some of the stop signs on the eastern side of Cherokee may be relocated in the new concrete once construction begins. Includes bollards and curb stops in between bike lanes. Watershed Management has introduced a FLOAT Program – anyone with a balance over $300 for the Department of Watershed can go on the website to see payment options and other options to work through outstanding balances. There are specific programs available for seniors and those on fixed income as well. Atlanta Council approved effort to lease jail space to Fulton County. Each council member had the opportunity to tour the detention center and ATDC. Fulton county leases 700 beds over 4 years and this money will go to pre-arrest diversion efforts.

Historic inflation reduction act, including an additional $3 billion to connect neighborhoods divided by highway. Aviation infrastructure investment to reduce air pollution and create environmentally friendly future. Supported safe dignified housing, joined House Proud and the Ring initiative to retrofit houses to keep 1,000 seniors in their homes. Item One – Public Safety: Zone 6 & Fire Department Update – Latest crimes were vehicle larcenies, many concentrated around Memorial Drive. There were 9 auto thefts since July 20. Upcoming Events – Summer Shade (8/27-8/28), House in the Park (9/4), APS Cross Country Meet (8/31), Breast Cancer Awareness Walk (10/2). Applications for the Atlanta Police Citizens Police Academy – Deadline to apply is 8/29 and the Academy takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-9:00pm, 9/6-10/25. September 12 will be the next joint meeting with NPU-W.
