Treasurer’s Update: Monthly Financial Report in Google Folder. June Income Statement – Income for the month was $2,347 and expenses were $2,267.52. There is $28,215.92 in the GPNA bank account.
Public Official Update: Lt. Carroll announced an arrest of the juvenile that has been robbing neighbors. To join the Grant Park Security Patrol, go to https://grantparksecuritypatrol.wildapricot.org. Sheryl Bennett attended to give an update from Jason Winston’s office. She can be reached at sbennett@atlantaga.gov. There is new information on the South Boulevard Complete Streets project. A community meeting is in the works mid-August to early September. New stop signs should be added shortly. Reminder that neighbors can register door cameras with ATLConnect to help the police department. The Summer Shade Festival will take place August 27-28. Item One – Public Safety: Zone 6 & Fire Department Update – For the last four weeks, there have been 11 reported auto crimes, concentrated near the end of Grant Street. There have also been 7 auto thefts. Lt. Hodges will be retiring at the end of this month. License Review Board Hearing for Grant Park Eats – This is on the LRB July 26 meeting agenda. The NPU is not supporting this application due to a number of issues related to the provisional license.
Upcoming Events: Maynard Jackson Benefit Run with street closings taking place August 13 from 8:00-10:00am. It starts at the school across Boulevard, loops at Park Avenue and then returns to the school. Bronx Day will be July 23 from 12:00-8:00pm. The next Public Safety Committee meeting will take place August 8 at 6:30pm. For more information, contact Chris Newman at publicsafety@gpna.org. There will be a meeting with PAD for an annual update on the Alternative Diversion Program. GPNA will share updates next month. GPNA is awaiting an annual report from Fulton County on the Juvenile Justice Program and will share updates once available.

Item Three – Homes & History: 528 Broyles Street – New Construction on Vacant Lot Passed AUDC on July 12. The committee meetings are the 4th Monday of every month. Historic Preservation as Responsibility for New Atlanta Planning Commissioner – GPNA put our name on a letter with the other historic neighborhoods to come together and ask the city to make historic preservation a priority to the new commissioner. The APC Letter can be found here. Design Regulations Reading/Focus Group – The design regulation reading and focus group is moving forward. If you expressed interest, please expect to be contacted in the coming weeks. Preservation Minute – As we’re receiving so much rain lately, remember to empty out anything that’s holding water and rake magnolia leaves that also attract mosquitoes.
Item Four – Transportation: Meet every third Monday of the month in conjunction with the NPU-W committee meeting. You can register for the meetings at https://cityofatlantanpu-w.org. We’re discussing crosswalk and stop sign additions around the neighborhood with adjacent neighbors to bring to Councilmember Winston. There will be a pre-planning meeting about Boulevard this Friday morning (July 22). The goal is to secure a public input session with Councilmember Winston to see how they’re moving forward with the last construction and design phase. Sign Topper Process Update – The new webpage for the sign topper project is live and can be found at https://transportation230.wixsite.com/grantparktransportat?s=0.0.0.20. There is a PayPal link on the page for people to make donations and claim intersections to sponsor. Over 200 people responded in the vote for the new sign topper design. Pedestrian hawk signal/beacons for Boulevard – The contractor that was supposed to install them requested more money for the project, which the city declined. The city is determining the best way to move forward, but hoping for August timing. Cherokee barriers update – On June 21, it was voted to move grant funding to get the barriers removed and new bollards installed. Anticipate completion by the end of this summer. Stop Sign Conversions – A process is underway to create an NPU resolution for Councilmember Winston to approve a swath of new sop signs. There are 12 places identified to legislate new stops for car visibility and pedestrian safety. These include: Muse Street @ Glenwood Avenue, Eloise Street @ Orme Avenue, Home Avenue @ United Avenue, Avondale Avenue @ United Avenue, Ormewood Terrace @ United Avenue, Vernon Avenue @ Ormewood Avenue, Ormewood Terrace @ Ormewood Avenue, Palatine Avenue @ Ormewood Avenue, Chester Street @ Glenwood Avenue, Glenwood Place @ Glenwood Avenue, Chester Street in 800 Glenwood, and Hemlock Avenue @ Glenwood Avenue. Neighbor feedback: It would be nice to also have a stop at Delmar and United and Waldo at Glenwood. This will be presented at NPU-W next Wednesday and if approved, will be submitted to Jason Winston.
Item Five – Fundraising: New small sunbursts – These are ideal for offices, condos, apartments, etc. They will be available at the Farmer’s Market on the July 31. The larger options will also be available. GPNA at the Farmer’s Market – This takes place every Sunday at the Beacon. Mothball date and location – Mothball 2022 will take place October 21 at Upstairs Atlanta. The theme is footloose and fancy free (like 80’s/90’s prom). Tickets will go on sale early September. Historically, this event is one of the most fun parties in the neighborhood. The money raised will go towards the nonprofits that GPNA supports. Item Six – Economic Development: Small business mixer – The first mixer took place on July 18 and 19 small businesses showed up. There’s a desire from small businesses to do this more often, so we’ll determine the best cadence moving forward. Mothball sponsorship opportunities – We have three different sponsorship levels. Our goal is to focus on local businesses first, but will consider businesses that pull in business from Grant Park. Platinum, Gold and Silver tiers come with different marketing opportunities, tickets, and a table at the event.
