GPNA Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, June 21, 2022

Call to Order–7:30pm. President’s Introduction. GPNA Gathering #3 will take place at Elsewhere Brewing on Tuesday, July 26th from 5-7pm. GPNA Gathering #4 will take place in October, and the date will shift from Saturday to Tuesday. More details to come. Vice President’s Welcome.

Special Orders

Item One – Public Safety: Zone 6 & Fire Department Update – Reported vehicle larcenies are at 11. Please be alert and aware, and call 911 with any concerns.

Upcoming Events: March of Dimes Walk will take place Saturday, June 25 and take place on the west side of the park.

Grant Park Eats Liquor Application – NPU-W Public Safety Group recommends not supporting the application until they become compliant with various regulations. There was no objection to supporting this recommendation. Grant Park Eats is also known as Zoo Bar & Parkside. GPNA remains in communication with new owners of The Beacon and are relaying neighbor concerns surrounding safety issues. The next NPU-W meeting takes place on July 11, and people can register ahttps://cityofatlantanpu-w.org.

Item Two – Land Use & Zoning: Upcoming NPU-W & LUZ Meetings – Beltline is coming to LUZ to present an updated draft plan for Subareas 3 and 4. The next NPU-W & LUZ meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 5.

Item Three – Homes & History: No update.

Item Four – Transportation: Sign Topper Design Options – GPNA shared two sign topper design options developed by a neighbor volunteer graphic designer. The poll will be posted online for community input, and if everyone agrees to move forward, we will kick off the process with $2,000 allocated from Community Impact Grant, dollars from the previous Homes & History Tour, and a street adoption fundraiser. Those attending the GPNA meeting voted for design option B. Atl311 is a good resource for anyone with questions/requests surrounding street signage.

GPNA has requested an update from Councilmember Winston about the status of the Boulevard Complete streets project. The AtlDOT website is the best resource to stay updated on construction schedules. 

The Cherokee bike lane cement barriers are supposed to be replaced with bollards and concrete wheel stops by the end of the summer. There are plans to complete the sidewalk on the western side of Grant Street going down to the Beacon, and construction is slated to start in June.

Item Five – Technology Committee: Call for Committee Volunteers.

Item Six – Fundraising Committee: GPNA at the Grant Park Farmers Market June 26.

Item Seven – Philanthropic Committee: No update.

Item Eight – Economic Development Committee: There will be a Grant Park Business Mixer with Nate Cook, the new GPNA Economic Development Chair, on July 18th from 6:30-7:30pm. Business owners in the area interested in attending or sponsoring upcoming GPNA initiatives can email Nate at economic@gpna.org.

Item Nine – Legacy Neighbor Committee: Recreation Center Reopening.

Item Ten – Community Items: Grant Park Conservancy – Summer Shade Festival will return on August 27th and 28th for the first time since the pandemic, including music, food, and art. This is the 20th anniversary of the festival. There are volunteer opportunities, and those interested can contact Lisa Chambers at achambers@gpconvervancy.org.
