If you are a music fan who prefers to enjoy artists in an up-close, personal, and interactive environment, then “Community Sessions” is for you!
This intimate acoustic singer-songwriter in-the-round event that features acoustic songs from a variety of genres including country, blues, folk, and rock is entering its second full season. Past artists have included Atlanta legends such as Bill Sheffield, Roger “Hurricane” Wilson, Heather Luttrell, and Caroline Aiken.
We open our 2025 season on February 23 with Slim Chance (Slim Chance & The Convicts), Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck and Elise Witt. Slim Chance, well-known locally as the one of the founders of the “Redneck Underground,” plays his signature brand of alt country/roots rock. Mudcat is an internationally known gospel and bluesman continuing the traditions of the early blues pioneers while adding his own Mudcat special sauce. And Elise Witt is a folk artist whose performance of her original tunes “is like a suitcase plastered with stickers from around the world… populated with interesting characters both heroic and comic” (Raleigh Times).
Our second session, to be held on April 27, will feature Diane Durrett, Liz Melendez, and “Community Sessions” alumna Caroline Aiken. We will end the first half of the year with our third session to be held on June 1 featuring Arrie Bozeman and Barb Carbon (of the Ain’t Sisters) and Ralph Rodenberry. Barb and Arrie will be doing songs from their 2025 release “Atomic” (album release on March 29 at Terminal West).
WRFG has a mission to support local musicians. We do our part to highlight Georgia artists that are part of a vibrant singer/songwriter scene that receives little support from other media outlets. WRFG is Atlanta’s listener-sponsored community ratio station for progressive information and handpicked quality music. The station is located in Little 5 Points and has served metro Atlanta since 1973.
The shows generally take place in the Litte 5 Points Community Center, 1083 Austin Avenue NE, Atlanta GA 30307, in the same building as the WRFG studios. Tickets are $25 in advance. There is a link for tickets sales at www.WRFG.org. If you are interested in being added to the mailing list for show announcements, please email julesradio@gmail.com and put “subscribe” in the subject line. Announcements will also be made over the air about three weeks in advance of any performance.
WRFG can be found on your radio dial at 89.3 FM or streaming from our website at www.WRFG.org.
