Upcoming BATL Tour and More

By Henry Bryant
You probably just missed the Battle of Atlanta Tour on June 11, but there is another one coming up on July 23. The one in July will be a new tour that will be a Civil War to Civil Rights tour. The tour takes about an hour and a half in an easy walk along past several Civil Rights sites on our side of town and will also visit the place where the Union Army was encamped and where the Historic Battle of Atlanta started on July 22, 1864. Visitors will hear stories of the men who fought in this historic battle that changed the course of US history as well as the story of two young students who made a difference for all who have come after them. Advance tickets are required and can be purchased until June 10 at www.batlevent.org. Spaces are limited.
Plus, the BATL organization will be featuring wreath-laying ceremonies on July 23 at Atlanta’s only genuine battlefield monuments to mark the 152nd anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta. The battle happened on July 22 and the ceremonies will be on Saturday July 23 and are offered free of charge. A Kirkwood tour entitled “The Battle Started Here” will likely be in August. The upcoming programs will be posted on the website soon if they are not already there. Money raised from the tours will be used to restore Atlanta’s only two battlefield monuments.
